Scripture seems to indicate that singing and music are very important to God. The very fact that God Himself sings, proves it! (Zeph. 3:17) Not only does God sing, it appears He Himself is moved by our singing – imagine that!
Other indicators of importance include; angels created with musical abilities, admonition of scripture as to its precedent, and over 200 direct or indirect references to music in Old and New Testament. I think God loves music and song!
Undoubtedly, music is one of the greatest movers of emotions known to man. It has the power to shape values or erode them - to evoke tears or, maybe a smile. Music and lyrics literally have the power of life and death.
Music and song goes much deeper than the ear; they actually affect mankind to the core. If this is true, then you and I become the product of the music we embrace. It behooves us to sentry our music. How’s your music shaping you?
Observation
It’s notable to observe that music seems to be associated with many of the major moves of God recorded in scripture. We find different sounds associated with sundry moves. Notice the following examples:
1.At creation…Job 38:4-7 says, the angels sang
2.At the exodus ....Exd. 15:1-19 says the women sang
3.At the collapse of Jericho…Josh 6:10-12 states there was no singing, only trumpets and shouting. (music)
4.David’s reign brought new music…I Chron. 25:1
5.Dedication of Solomon’s Temple…II Chron. 5:11-14 Trumpets and singing
To me, this is a strong argument that if you want to be in on what God is currently doing - you need to be singing the songs He’s now releasing!
Please understand, this is not a slam against the great hymns of the faith, or any liturgical style of worship – it’s merely a statement of what appears to be biblical truth.
Conclusion:
So, what role is music playing in your life? Are you on the cutting edge of the new sounds being released in the earth today? Why not take the time to revisit your personal views of music and song? Become intentional in using music aright. It could change your life! Hey - Sing On!
